Halifax Regional Police Need a Lawn Mower

My company recently purchased a property in Dartmouth, NS, Canada that is on a small residential corner intersection. Apparently, corner porperties are quite the heatscore for by-law officers.

A few weeks ago I got a call from a police officer letting me know that the grass on the other side of my fence is too long and I have to cut it. I shrugged this off as being busy work for the officer and I laughed to myself of how petty of a by-law this officer was enforcing. I told him I would have it cut. I subconsciously put this item on the bottom of my priority list and a couple weeks went by when I get another call. This time the officer left a message on my phone re-iterating the the grass has not been cut and that HRM (Halifax Regional Municipality) was going to cut it at my expense. Great! That means I don’t have to do anything but recieve the bill. They may as well add that to my taxes as far as I’m concerned.

A week went by and I had yet to recieve a bill from HRM. After getting home from work I checked my messages and I have about 5 or 6 from different people (family members and close friends) wondering if I am ok. Of course, I had no idea what they were talking about. It turns out the police went to my business partner’s parents house looking for me (they did not say what it was for so you can imagine the excitement). That started a flurry of phone calls to my family wondering where I am (I was at work, cell phone dead) and why the cops were looking for me.

I finally got a hold of everybody to reassure them I was ok. All this for uncut grass. I can come up with some other use of the police resources that would be better than worrying about my lawn.
